A Dog-Friendly Guide to New Quay, West Wales

Looking for dog-friendly holidays in New Quay, West Wales? Located in the countryside, with sandy beaches five minutes away, Dulais Retreat is the perfect place to enjoy a luxury escape with your four-legged friends. To help you plan your activities, we are taking a look at some of the best things to do with dogs in the New Quay area.

Dog-friendly accommodation
At Dulais Retreat, dogs are very welcome. Both holiday cottages Bwhythn Derrick and Ty Cloc, along with our log cabin Golygfa are all dog-friendly accommodations.
Owners can enjoy the amenities of our self-catering accommodation while dogs will love to run free and off the lead in our safe and secure 15 acres of country and woodland grounds. Your four-legged friends can play in the grassy fields, take in the shaded wooded area, or play with our family pet. For more details, please see our page on dog-friendly accommodations.
Local walks with dogs
Within our grounds, away from the direct vicinity of our self-catering holiday accommodations, your pets can run, swim, nap and play. However, there are many wonderful walks you can take together nearby. Our location is close to the sandy beaches of New Quay, which is a lovely place for you to enjoy your time on holiday with dogs. Here are a few of our favourite walks in the area:
Cei Beach to New Quay
Cei Beach is a favourite with dog walkers, as the beach and walk are dog-friendly all the way, all year round. The walk is best tackled at low tide when you can walk along the sandy beach, and there are plenty of choices for refreshments along the way.
River Teifi in Llandysul
In Llandysul, there is a good network of walks with a variety of scenery and levels of difficulty. But the most scenic walks can be found near the picturesque River Teifi, with views of waterfalls and pretty little villages to be found.
Aberaeron
For a more leisurely stroll, Aberaeron is a picturesque and colourful Georgian town with no hills. Take a walk through the park, along the river Aeron, around the harbour, beach and prom through shops, pubs, cafes and the town centre.
Talley Woodland Walks
For something slightly more challenging, the Talley Woodland Walk offers both forest and mountain for your dog to explore. The views from the top can be enjoyed sitting on a picnic bench, where you can see Abergorlech in the southwest and Brecon Beacon in the far west.

Local dog-friendly pubs and cafes
There are a number of places to eat and drink in our local area on your dog-friendly days out. Here are just a few:
Bunch of Grapes
A short drive from Dulais Retreat, Bunch of Grapes offers a relaxed bar and restaurant to enjoy delicious, hearty Welsh food with the whole family, and your dog.
Tanygraig Inn
A lovely dog-friendly pub in Llanybydder serving traditional Welsh pub grub. The local pub has a selection of real ales and draft drinks too, and is a great place to watch your favourite team with Sky Sports and BT Sports showings.
The Old Watch House
A lovely dog-friendly cafe on the New Quay harbour with views of the beach and out to sea. Dogs can enjoy the views while you grab a bite to eat on the balcony.
Rossini Italian Restaurant
This Italian restaurant can be seen on your drive down to the New Quay beaches. It caters for all your pizza and pasta needs and is dog-friendly. The bar is not licenced, so it's BYOB.
For a full list of dog-friendly pubs and cafes in the area, see the Dog Furiendly website.
Respect the local area on your dog-friendly holiday
In the proximity of the holiday homes, we ask that dogs be kept on a lead. In addition to not leaving pets alone in your holiday cottage or lodge, please bag up any litter and dispose of it properly. When exploring local areas, please keep to the park etiquette and safety guidance, and follow signs.
